Triathlon Tales

Oct 19, 2014

For the love of our clients at their incredible accomplishments…

Cheryl Adam

In her first season of doing sprint distance triathlons, Cheryl was awarded 2014 Rookie of the Year by Triathlon Manitoba along with female Sprint Series Winner for her age category. She was also nikenamed “dark horse” by her team, Triple Threat, because she unexpectedly stole the show with every race she entered. As an outsider, it’s easy to look at endurance athletes and assume that their bodies are designed for racing or that they have an unfair physiological advantage. But, Cheryl’s journey is an inspiration to anyone who thinks they are not cut out for triathlons. In Fall 2011, Cheryl was 50 pounds overweight and decided it was time to change her lifestyle. She started running. Her relentless persistence brought her to contact Blake at Pure and she started to train with Paul in March 2013. With a lot of poking and prodding, the guys at Pure finally convinced Cheryl to join a team and she jumped into the triathlon world in November 2013. Her team, family and trainers gave her constant encouragement, Chris Graham taught her to swim and in June she finished her first triathlon with a time of 1:26:54 (2nd place in her age category). After a challenging race at Riding Mountain, she wrapped up her rookie year by qualifying for World’s with a time of 1:21:43 (1st place in her age category) in Pinawa.
