Pure Physiotherapy: Meet Shane

Oct 9, 2015

Shane was always an all-star athlete, winning the “Athlete of the Year” award four consecutive years in high school. He competed in numerous sports, but especially loved bodybuilding. Then two years ago, at the age of 20, everything changed for Shane. He was in a terrible motorcycle accident, fracturing 10 vertebrae, and becoming a quadriplegic. His doctors told him there was only a 1% chance he would walk again. Motivation, determination, and an excellent work ethic propelled Shane on his journey towards recovery. Amazingly, he began to walk again!

Shane began physiotherapy at Pure Lifestyle in August 2015. He attends three times per week and is consistently improving! His treatment is mainly focused on gait (walking) re-education, balance training, and strengthening his hips and core. We are working towards improving his neuromuscular patterning with various functional movements such as stair climbing and squatting. Improving these patterns will increase his ability to properly strength train, which will help him reach his goal of competing in the Manitoba Amateur Body Building Association provincial qualifier in March 2016.

At Pure Lifestyle, we work with clients with orthopedic injuries as well as neurological conditions. We encourage our clients to achieve their goals and take pride in helping them reach them. Shane has overcome all odds and surpassed all expectations, yet he continues to set the bar higher and higher for his future achievements. He is an inspiration to us all and we are thrilled to be able to assist in his recovery. Keep up the great work Shane!
